Leonardo came to San Francisco from Guatemala in 1984. He earned a B.A. in Computer Applications from San Francisco City College and holds a current CA Teaching Credential. He has also achieved many computer certifications and worked a variety of jobs affording him 14 years of experience teaching adults and youth computer applications.
Prior to joining One Economy, Leonardo worked with Goodwill Industries of San Francisco as a Database Administrator. He also served as a Computer Applications Instructor with both San Francisco City College and Mission Language Vocational School (MLVS). Between these two jobs he trained over 5,000 students in technology and computer applications. Additionally, in 1995 he launched the first youth technology program serving the Mission District at MLVS, called Youth-Net.
Leonardo joined One Economy Corporation in the summer of 2003 as a consultant tasked with implementing the first West Coast Digital Connectors program in San Francisco. Since then he has expanded the program to 12 sites all over the state and has mentored over 1,500 youth to become the next generation of technology ambassadors. Having recently transferred to the Community Impact team, he is now responsible for leading targeted, technology-led community development efforts in the communities served by One Economy in the Bay Area and Central California. These efforts include distributing free Internet connections, affordable computers, technology training and support, technology-based youth leadership programs and localized content, intended to connect community residents to information and resources that they can use to join the economic mainstream.
